Get Rid of Monsoon Hair Woes!!!!
Rains evoke the emotions of vibrancy and happiness. Gushing water, chirping birds, shimmering sky, clean air and sparkling greenery …. oh! we so love the rains….
But monsoons wreak havoc with our hair. They get frizzy, unmanageable, rough and worst of all hair-fall is a problem that is reported by a lot of people in the monsoons. We thought let’s give a few organic tips to help you tide over your hair woes and enjoy this beautiful romantic weather.
There are a lot of hair care products in the market with tall claims of smoothening hair and arresting hairfall. We are not against any product, but we at choosemydiet feel that going organic is always a safer option because:
a) it is natural so it will not cause any lasting side effects
b) the worst that can happen is that it will be ineffective so you are not worse off than before.
So, here goes
1. Dull, dry and frizzy hair: People with curly hair are the worst effected as curls become frizzy and unmanageable due to moisture in the air. Washing your hair on alternate days will help but if you have dry frizzy curls then do oil them before washing.
Method:
Take some curry leaves ( 20-25), wash them and let them dry for 30-40 minutes. Take some coconut oil and heat it on a low flame. A word of caution, the flame has to be low otherwise the oil would catch fire. Once the oil is heated, put the curry leaves in the oil and let them simmer for 5 minutes. The oil would change colour and become greenish. Switch off the stove and let the oil cool down. Once it is lukewarm, massage your hair with this mixture.
You may strain the leaves or let the oil be applied with the leaves itself.
Choosemydiet recommends to wash your hair 10-12 hours post application of this oil. You would see a noticeable softness and a bounce in your hair.
Massage this oil every week for best results.
2. Excessive hair-fall:
Hairfall can be attributed to various factors like vitamin deficiencies, iron deficiencies etc. But assuming that one is healthy and still having hair-fall due to climatic conditions, this is what we recommend.:
Method 1:
Step1 : Take half a bowl of fresh curd and not flavoured or frozen yogurt. The curd should not be sour to taste. In a blender place the curd and add 25-30 fresh and washed curry leaves. Blend it till the leaves mash and a paste is formed.
Step 2: Now remove the curd from the blender and place it in a bowl.
Step 3: Massage the scalp with this hair pack for around 15-20 minutes and if the paste is in excess, apply on the complete length of the hair, covering them from roots to tips.
Step 4: Leave this pack in your hair for 15-20 minutes and then wash off with a mild shampoo.
Your hair would be shiny, bouncy and hair-fall would get arrested. This hair pack needs to be applied every 4-5 days to get the best results.
Method 2:
Step 1: Take half a bowl of fresh curd. The curd should not be sour to taste. In a blender place the curd and add around half teaspoon of dry fenugreek seeds. Blend it to make a paste.
Step 2: Massage the scalp with this hair pack for around 15-20 minutes and apply the resultant paste on the entire length of the hair covering them from roots to tips.
Step 3: Leave this pack in your hair for around 45 minutes to one hour and then wash off with a mild shampoo.
This not only arrests hair-fall but also helps in reduction of dandruff with shiny hair as an added bonus.
3. Dandruff and itchy scalp:
People who suffer from dandruff see it increase its intensity in the monsoons, the itchiness also goes a notch higher. A few simple remedies can provide some relief.
– It is important to manage the pH level to avoid dandruff so post shampooing your hair, make a rinse of equal parts apple cider with equal parts of water. Lightly massage your hair with it and leave it on for a few minutes. Rinse well with water. Your hair would be shiny and the dandruff and itchiness would also get curtailed.
- You can also use a hair pack of curd on your hair to manage dandruff, just massage fresh curd in your hair and leave it on for 20-25 minutes, wash off with a mild shampoo. Please ensure the curd is not sour otherwise the resultant odour in the hair is unpleasant.
-
Mix fresh lemon juice in coconut oil and massage on your scalp. It would sting a little as lemon has astringent properties. Leave it on for an hour and wash off with a shampoo.
